Jessica Brodley-Lopez: Getting Ready for School
While at school, your children have schedules and routines which help them create smooth transitions from activity to activity or class to class. But how do we create these same smooth transitions in the mornings getting ready for school?
Through the use of visuals that remind your student what they need to get ready and before heading out the door as a check, your mornings can be much smoother.
But how, you ask?
Attached we have added a male and female version of our visuals along with some of the important items needed for school. Of course you can always draw your own, download and print from online, or even use your child's enlarged picture! We left the pictures colorless for you to adjust as you wish.
I recommend having your student fill in what items s/he will need when identifying the objects. Also, where it goes! Not only does it reinforce the specific body parts, it helps answer WH? and teaches your student how to pick up on cues!
If it comes from us, you know there is a song to go along!
Listen to the attached sound clip as an explain of one verse and add/create your own!
With my toothbrush for my teeth, (Brush, brush)
Getting them really clean. (Brush, brush)
Before school I know
I'll get ready to go
With my toothbrush for my teeth. (Brush, brush)
With my hairbrush for my hair, (Comb, comb)
Bedhead everywhere. (Comb, comb)
Before school I know
I'll get ready to go
With my hairbrush for my hair. (Comb, comb)
With my breakfast in my tummy, (Yum, yum)
I won't be really hungry. (Yum, yum)
Before school I know
I'll get ready to go
With my breakfast in my tummy. (Yum, yum)
With my two shoes on my feet, (Tie, tie)
I'll walk to the beat. (Tie, tie)
Before school I know
I'll get ready to go
With my two shoes on my feet. (Tie, tie)
With my backpack on my back, (Strap, strap)
I'll carry my books in the sack. (Strap, strap)
Before school I know
I'll get ready to go
With my backpack on my back. (Strap, Strap)
Don't forget when the weather changes, your student may need additional clothes on their visual. They will love to see what they will need for the upcoming school day!
