Internship Program

The Fulton County Schools Music Therapy Department has been a National Roster Internship Training Site of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) since 1998, supervising over 100 interns! We are proud to offer extensive and diverse training with a variety of student populations and all age levels, from preschool through high school.

The internship program in Fulton County allows interns to be supervised by multiple Board Certified Music Therapist. The clinical training director, Amber Weldon-Stephens Ed.S, LPMT, MT-BC, will always be one of an intern's supervisors. Each intern will then be assigned a primary supervising Music Therapist, a home school and up to 3 more supervising Music Therapist.  at a home

school (to whom s/he will report and primarily communicate re: clinical issues), plus several Music Therapists at additional schools. Interns are selected through an on-site interview/live audition process. The internship generally lasts from the Friday after Labor Day to the last week in March. Interns gradually progress from observing/co-leading sessions to leading an entire caseload, always under the close supervision of their mentor music therapist and the classroom teacher.

For detailed information on internship training for music therapists from the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), please visit this link.

If you're a Music Therapy student interested in a varied, comprehensive internship with a dynamic group of clients, colleagues, and supervisors, we'd love to hear from you! Email Amber Weldon-Stephens with questions you may have, or to receive an application.

This is a video the interns of 2015 made. Back story: The five interns of 2015 were on their way back to GA from National Conference when a HUGE wreck, involving multiple 16 wheeler trucks (no injuries), caused a 4 hour delay in traffic. What was a better way to use this delay than to rewrite Fancy. This rewrite and video was created purely out of fun and was not a requirement of the internship.
