Kirby Carruth: Housekeeping Blues

Performed with a basic blues progression and strum.

This is an awesome activity to use with older middle and high school populations, as well as adults with intellectual disabilities. Not only does it reinforce independent living skills, but you can also incorporate picture matching, sorting objects, matching specific items needed to specific tasks, and as a song-writing or instrument accompaniment song.

I know you and your clients can have so much fun brainstorming other housekeeping tasks and incorporating them into even more fun verses!

Housekeeping tasks might include:
Basic cleaning, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, sorting, washing and folding laundry, making the bed, shopping for food

Chorus
I got the housekeeping blues,
I got the housekeeping blues,
This house is such a mess
I got the housekeeping blues

 Verse 1
Time to clean the house
Mop and vacuum
Sweep the floor - of each and every room
Dust the shelves - all the furniture
Spic and span - here I stand
I got the housekeeping blues

 Verse 2
I gotta make the bed
Put on the sheets
Put the blanket on - nice and neat
Stack the pillows -  fluffy and soft
Making the bed - doing my best
I got the housekeeping blues

 Verse 3
I gotta wash some clothes
Pants and shirts
Towels and sheets - get out the dirt
Sort them all - then fold them up
Put ‘em away - that’s where they’ll stay
I got the housekeeping blues
