Technology is everywhere. It affects most aspects of our daily lives and its changing by growing more complex every day. Schools are putting more and more emphasis on technology within the classroom, which is great for educational purposes. But when does a child reach too much screen time?
An extremely interesting article about how technology influences the brain has been published by the New York Post. The article states, "We now know that those iPads, smartphones and Xboxes are a form of digital drug. Recent brain imaging research is showing that they affect the brain’s frontal cortex — which controls executive functioning, including impulse control — in exactly the same way that cocaine does. Technology is so hyper-arousing that it raises dopamine levels — the feel-good neurotransmitter most involved in the addiction dynamic..." That's the great thing about music therapy. While we incorporate technology appropriately into our sessions, technology can never change the power and benefits of live music making. Comments are closed.
